Thomas Household
Homemaker With Access To The Self-Service Shredder
CHALLENGE
Jill is a homemaker with a hectic life that includes shuttling kids, paying bills, and keeping her home clean and the family fed. She has become increasingly concerned about identity theft. She no longer casually throws away old bank statements, credit cards, etc. She bought a home shredder for the purposes of properly destroying her family’s documents, but the piles of documents continued to grow.
Jill quickly discovered that her home shredder took only one page at a time (no staples or paperclips), and even at that, if the page went in crooked it jammed the machine. When it jammed—and it often did—she had to use a letter opener, pair of scissors or straightened paper clip to remove every shard. The entire un-jamming process, which took 15-20 minutes, taken with the length of time it took to feed in documents one page at a time, became the reasons Jill put off using the shredder. Eventually, the shredder simply became became a part of the clutter.
SOLUTION
One day, while running errands, Jill discovered that her bank had recently acquired The Self-Service Shredder™, and was making it available to its customers for free. After reading that the industrial shredder took 20 pages at a time, cardboard, credit cards, CDs, DVDs, and even floppies, and that she didn’t even have to remove staples or paper clips before shredding, it was love at first sight.
RESULTS
Taking a bit with her each time she went to the bank, eventually Jill eliminated the huge piles of documents that had been scattered throughout her home. Because she could actually watch as each document and credit card was destroyed, she felt good about protecting her family from fraud. The bank, at only a few dollars a session, had made life a little easier for Jill and had helped protect the identity of all of the clients.
“By offering The Self Service Shredder™, my bank helped me protect my family from identity theft and saved me a lot of time. That makes me VERY happy!“
